Following the publication of the article [1], the author reported that reference 13 and its associated statement within the manuscript were unrelated to the referenced paper.

“Yeika et al. [13] suggested that approximately 1 in 18 to 1 in 825 individuals in Africa may have SMA. Western Africa had the highest reported prevalence at 70.1%, followed by Northern Africa at 48.1%. Eastern Africa has the lowest reported prevalence [13]”.

The unrelated statement and its citation have been deleted to ensure accuracy and clarity.

The original article has been updated.
